Sephora Play! October 2016

It’s that time again! My Sephora Play! October box has arrived:

The theme this month is “The Cool Cut”, which I guess they are intending to mean items that are new and different. As always, it came with six products, a bag, an info sheet and a card for 50 extra Beauty Insider points. Let us take a look inside.

First up, we’ve got one of my favorite things – a liquid lipstick! This is Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick, in the color Driver’s Seat ($24). I’ve been meaning to try out Smashbox’s liquid lip formula, but haven’t really had a reason to buy any more lip colors hahaha

It’s a warm toned pink, and at first I wasn’t sure how it would look on me, but it actually reminds me a lot of some lip colors I already have and like. I swatched them next to it to compare. I’m looking forward to seeing how the formula is compared to my other liquid lipsticks!

The box included two skincare products this month, which I always welcome!!! First, the Skin Inc. Pure Revival Peel ($55). This is a “gentle” skin peel designed to brighten complexion and remove dead skin. I gave it a try right before writing this. All you do is apply it to your face, leave on for 10 seconds, and the dead skin rubs right off! It was equal parts disgusting and satisfying. It’s a really interesting product and I haven’t used anything like it before. I should be able to get a couple uses out of it.

The second skincare item is the Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb ($38). This is a gel-cream moisturizer that I’ve seen tons of people raving about. It smells fresh and clean and I’m super excited to try it!! I’m going through moisturizers super quickly lately (I just finished the Ole Henriksen one from my last Sephora box, RIP) so it’s convenient that beauty boxes keep sending them to me 🙂

The hair product in this box is the Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Prickly Pear Seed Oil ($71). First of all let’s just acknowledge that this product literally sounds like something out of a Winnie the Pooh story. Second, I’m not sure why a hair mask should EVER cost $71!! Products like this are why I love the Sephora boxes though – this is something I would never dream of spending the money to try otherwise, so it’s cool that I get to try it. It smells kind of like baby powder. I did use it yesterday and it’s actually really nice! I put it on in the shower after shampooing, left it on for a few minutes and then rinsed. My hair is super soft and silky!!!

Next is a mascara – I swear, I haven’t bought mascara in over a year because I keep getting samples in beauty boxes lol! So convenient for me. This is the Blinc Mascara Amplified in Black ($26). This is apparently a “tubing” mascara – I will not pretend that I knew what this was before I got this product. I guess instead of painting the product on to your lashes, this is supposed to coat them with little tubes so it won’t run or flake. I am curious to see if it actually has any different effects – we’ll see!

The last product in the box is this month’s perfume – Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris ($92). As usual I am horrible at describing scents, but this is supposed to be inspired by Paris, with fruity and floral notes over a musky base…… I wish I knew anything about scents. I couldn’t even figure out that the hair mask up there smelled like baby powder. I literally had to ask Chris “what does this smell like?” I am clearly not sophisticated enough for fancy perfumes. But it smells good.

Here’s a shot of the little info card for this month’s products (click for larger):

As for the value of this box – I mathed it and the total approximate value of this box is $44.90. The highest valued sample was the Christophe Robin hair mask, while the lowest was the YSL perfume. Overall definitely worth that $10 I paid though!

everything

And that’s all for the month! Same as September’s box, I’m really pleased with the products in this one. I can see myself actively using all of them and I love that I can consistently expect good things from this subscription box. If you haven’t already please do yourself a favor and sign up for Sephora Play!

see you next month! 🙂 Kaela
