Sephora Play! December 2016

This weekend I came home from work to find TWO beautiful surprises in the mail – my Target Beauty Box AND my Sephora Play! box!! I’ll review the Target one in a separate post, but today I’m talking about the Sephora box for December 🙂 The theme this month is “The Partygoers”, so there’s lots of cute products perfect for a holiday party!

stuff

I’m always excited to get my Sephora box, but when I saw the spoilers for this month’s box I knew it was going to be a good one!! I was excited about every product in this box, and I was even more thrilled when I opened it up and saw that beautiful black bag…

cute

UGH it is SO CUTE!!! I liked the white bags that have been coming with the boxes (see my past reviews for some examples) but this one is just so cute and classy and perfect for this box/theme. I feel like the white ones look a little more ….disposable? I guess? regardless, the products inside are super awesome too…here’s what I got!

dry-shampoo

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo ($23)

The cutest little dry shampoo!! As a person who hates washing her hair, dry shampoo is my jam. I can basically never have enough of it. I’ve never used this brand before but judging from their Sephora brand page they sell extremely overpriced hair items haha. Anyway, this smells really good and I’ll definitely get some use out of it!!

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara ($27.50)

I love mascara samples because you’re supposed to toss them out after a few months anyway, so it’s the perfect amount to try it out without spending tons of money on wasted product. I’ve never used a Lancome mascara but this one looks promising! It seems to be a more dry formula rather than a very sticky wet one and it has sort of a rosy smell imo. I’ll throw it on the pile to try it out.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red ($14)

Sephora Collection coming at us again with the RIDICULOUSLY small lip samples!! When I opened the box and swatched it I also decided to put it on my lips to see how it looks haha it’s a really smooth, nice lip cream that dries matte. It transfers slightly on me but isn’t really drying, which I liked. I really like the color on me too!

primer

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer ($37)

This came at a great time because I am just finishing up one of my NYX primers and I’m excited to try something new! This primer comes in a bunch of different varieties and this one is supposed to fill in pores and fine lines. We’ll see how it compares to my other ones and if it’s worth $37 haha

spray

Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray ($31)

I was super excited to get this setting spray because it’s something I am VERY familiar with already! I seriously have 2 bottles of it in my bathroom right now. Once I set my makeup with this it does not MOVE!! This one will be nice to have and throw into my makeup bag if I travel or anything 🙂

perfume

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose fragrance ($85)

This month’s perfume sample is by a brand that was apparently created by the Olsen twins. I’m actually not crazy about this scent – it’s a little strong for me and VERY flowery. I hear that they have another one that smells better (Bourbon, I think?) so maybe I’ll have to give that one a sniff in the store…lol

The little info card that comes with this month was very cute, you can click here to see the right side full size:

All in all I think this was a really strong box! The only thing I am not really fond of is the perfume, but I’m really into everything else and I know I’ll use it all. I think this month’s theme really lent itself well to a box and the insert is even super cute!

As always I did the math and the value of this box is around $39, which is a great deal for the $10 that I paid! Even though this one is technically a lower value than last month, I actually value the items a lot more in this month’s box…I seriously used up that lame makeup remover from the November box in like 2 days haha. Anyway, I still haven’t been legitimately disappointed with this box and I’ve been getting it for over 6 months now…seriously everybody go and get on the waitlist for this haha

that’s all for this post! stay tuned for a Target beauty box review coming up in the next week or so 🙂
