Bare Minerals/Buxom Gift Set Review & Swatches

Today I have a review of something really cool that I got for Christmas – a massive gift set of BareMinerals and Buxom products!! I didn’t really know what to call this post, because this set doesn’t really have a name, but I wanted to write about it anyway 🙂 My mom is really good at getting sets like this for a great price – this one contains 14 products!!!

Also I had no idea that these two brands had the same parent company but here we are. Anyway, I was so excited to receive this box because I’ve tried very few products from either of these brands, so I got a chance to try some new things. In a strange coincidence, I had actually just purchased a lip cream from Buxom right before I received this that was not part of the set, but I’m including it in this post because I love it and want to talk about it lol

Here’s everything I got in the box!

everything

I’ll start off with eye products – there’s SEVEN in here! I’ll put the individual photos first and I swatched everything together at the end 🙂

cupcake

First, there’s a loose eyeshadow – BareMinerals Glimpse Eyeshadow in Cupcake – which is a full sized item!! It retails for $15. This is a beautiful sparkly pink shadow with gold and silver tiny glitters that you can’t really see in the photo, but its lovely in person. I don’t own any other loose shadows and I absolutely love this color. I’m really happy with this one.

cream-shadow

The BareMinerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow is a mouthful, but it’s also very intriguing. The formula is almost like a matte liquid lipstick. I wore this a few days ago and it’s different from anything I’ve tried before. Somehow it transforms from cream to almost like powder?? It’s crazy! I really like this and am looking forward to using it more often. The color is Smoky Espresso and it costs $19 normally.

liners

I got 3 eyeliners – first, two Buxom Hold the Line Waterproof Liners in Call Me and Here’s My Number and then the Bare Minerals Big & Bright Eyeliner in Chocolate. The Buxom ones are very creamy and thick, they remind me of the It Cosmetics eyeliner. “Call Me” is a thick black and “Here’s My Number” is a creamy matte dark brown. I think the BareMinerals one might be discontinued or something, because when I googled it it’s only available on Amazon from outside sellers…guess they’re trying to get rid of their leftover stock in these boxes haha. The BareMinerals one is less creamy and smudgey and definitely more of a traditional pencil liner. It’s a lighter, warmer brown than Here’s My Number. I don’t use pencil liners that much but I have been using the Revlon one from my Target box a lot lately, so I’ll have to put these into rotation too! These are all full size, and the Buxom ones are normally $17 while it looks like the BareMinerals one is about $9 on Amazon.

cc-eye-primer

This is the BareMinerals Well-Rested CC Eye Primer, which kinda puzzled me at first… and kinda still does haha. I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be a primer for your eyelids or your undereyes similar to the Smashbox one I have. It seems like it’s supposed to be for eyelids but “well-rested” makes me think of undereyes? idk. I’m almost out of myPS: This post contains affiliate links, meaning for each click or purchase made through the links in this post, I will receive a small (very small!) percentage of that purchase. My full disclaimer can be found on my about page🙂 so I’ll start using this one once I run out of that. This is full size and is regularly $20.

mascara

Finally, a mascara! This is the BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara. I’ve said it before, but I actually love sample size mascaras because I can try them out and use them up before they go bad. I’m excited to try this one! This is not full size, but the full size retails for $19.

Here’s all the swatches from the eye products:

eye-swatches

You can see the sparkle better in the pink eyeshadow here, it’s so pretty! Total value of the box so far: $106.82!! :O

Next, I have two face products:

concealer

This one is the BareMinerals Multi-Tasking Concealer in Bisque. I’ve never used a powder concealer before??? So I’m curious to how effective this can really be lol. But I’ll try it!! This one isn’t full size, but the regular one retails for $20.

bronzer

The other face product is the BareMinerals BareSkin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer. I actually already received this in a Sephora Play! box a few months ago, and I can’t say I love it. I’ve only tried it once, but it’s a bit warm and orange toned for me and I really don’t use bronzer that much anyway. I might as well give it another shot, but I don’t see this one being a hit for me. This one is not full size, but it regularly retails for $28.

Here’s the swatches from the face products:

Looks like the concealer is a good match for me but the bronzer is a bit too dark. Total value of box so far: $118.12 ^_^

Next I have four lip products!

lipstick

First we have the Buxom Full-On Lipstick in Brooklyn. I wore this a few times over the past week and I like it! It’s not super long wearing but it is a beautiful color and very comfortable to wear. This one is not full size – the full one retails for $20 each.

whiterussian

This is the product that didn’t come with the box, but I just happened to purchase it right before I got this box and I LOVE it so I wanted to include it haha. This is a Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian. I got this because a youtuber I watch (Kathleen Lights) always raves about it and I’m so happy I did because I love it so much! The color is a beautiful nude pink and I normally hate lip glosses but this one is so nice. It leaves a tingly feeling behind and stays nice and shiny all day. This one is obviously full size cuz I bought it separately haha and they’re $20 each (but I won’t include that in the total value of this box!)

Okay, back to the gift box! These two are BareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balms, in the colors Nude Passion and Pink Passion. I was not really sure what a lip oil-balm is?? But it seems like they’re just very moisturizing and somewhat sheer. As we know, I prefer opaque very long-lasting lips to sheer washes of color so I probably won’t use these much with my full-face makeup haha but it will nice on more low key days. The nude one is full size but the pink one is not – they are normally $16 each full size.

Here’s the lip swatches:

lip-swatches

And the box total keeps going up: we’re at 148.48!!

And finally, in the box I received 2 brushes:

brushes

These are both from BareMinerals – Full Flawless Face Brush and Brow Master Brush. My brow brush is falling apart so that one is definitely a welcome addition haha. Definitely looking forward to trying out both of these! These are normally $28 and $16, respectively.

And that’s everything!! So our grand total for the value of the box is…$192.48!! That is INSANE and I almost can’t believe how much was in here. Since I received this as a gift, I didn’t buy it, but my mom was excited to tell me that she got this set for about $30…so clearly it was an amazing deal! I’m so excited to try out everything in here, I think there could be some real winners in the bunch!

I hope you enjoyed reading about everything in this set! I should have a review of the Amazon Luxury Beauty Box I got for Christmas as well as some other things (both makeup-related and not!) up on the blog soon, so I hope you’ll come back to see 🙂 until then!

xo, Kaela
