Friday Favorites – 1/20

Like I mentioned in my Top 5 post earlier this week, I’ve got a couple of ideas up my sleeve to stay on track with my New Years resolution to keep up with my blog.  I think one of the best ways to make myself do that is to do a weekly series so I’m FORCED to keep up with it 😉 So today I’m introducing another new series, called Friday Favorites! Every Friday I’ll write about my favorite fun or interesting things from the week in a sort of roundup post. Since another thing I wanted to do this year is focus on positive things rather than negatives, I think having a weekly list of things that made me happy is a great way to start 🙂

My favorite things from this week:

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette

If you have been following me for a while, you know I am obsessed with Kat Von D’s makeup. I absolutely love her liquid lipsticks and I use her Tattoo Liner every. day. Well, last week I went to my lovely Sephora with some gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, and I picked up this STUNNING Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette. It’s something I’ve been eyeing (ha) for a while because while I have a strong collection already, I was looking for some really nice matte shades, especially transition shades. I’ve been using it the past few days and I am OBSESSED with it!! The shadows are so soft and easy to blend, and of course work-appropriate. The palette divided into three quads: neutral, cool, and warm. The coolest thing is that I thought I would never use the warm quad because I’m so cool toned but I actually LOVE it!!!! The look in the pic above was done with the warm colors and I love it so much. I think this palette was an excellent purchase and a great addition to my collection. PS: Did you know you can use Disney gift cards at the Disney Springs Sephora??? Game changer!

Chrissy Teigen on Twitter

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love Chrissy Teigen, but allow me to wax poetic about her for a moment more – I love her. She’s hilarious, beautiful, intelligent, super woke, has a lovely husband, wrote a great cookbook, and puts her haters in their place on her Twitter. She’s one of those celebrities that I just wanna be friends with. Her twitter always has quality content but this weekend she had me dying while she live tweeted the Sunday night football games:

Literally, same.

She just cracks me up and definitely brought me some joy this week!

Dangerous Woman – Ariana Grande

This album isn’t exactly brand new but idk, I’ve been listening to it so much lately! A lot of people like to hate on Ariana Grande because I guess she’s kind of a diva but come on…if I could sing like this, I would probably act like a diva too. Anyway, my favorites from this album are Greedy, Touch It, Into You, Be Alright, Sometimes, and Side to Side. These may not be the most lyrically genius super deep makes-you-think-about-your-life songs, but I think there’s something to be said for a fun poppy album that you can bop around to. People who hate pop music just for the sake of hating it need to stop taking themselves so seriously imo hahaha

The Bachelor

Okay save the judgement here because I honestly love this trash…we even have a fantasy league going!! The key to enjoying The Bachelor is that you can’t take it too seriously. Obviously the success rate for this franchise is low – only 6 out of the 32 Bachelor/Bachelorette couples are still together – so I’m not watching this to see someone’s romance blossom. I’m here for crazy group dates where everyone pretends it’s not awkward to be on a date with 7 other women, dramatic music at rose ceremonies, ridiculous gimmicky contestants that go home in the first 3 weeks…it’s honestly wild and such a joke and I love it hahaha. And the best part is that you get to see so many really awesome women and watch their friendships grow too which I love!!! For the record, my favs are Vanessa, Rachel, and Danielle M. And I think Alexis is hilarious and Raven and Christen are super cute. And Corinne’s antics kill me hahah. Honestly forget Nick, most of these women are too good for him anyway!!!!

La La Land

og

Rounding out the list is this honestly beautiful film that Chris and I saw on Wednesday. I’m about to write a lot so buckle down haha. I don’t know what I was expecting this film to be, but in my opinion it was really something special. I actually haven’t talked much my love of musicals on the blog much before, but they’ve been an important part of my life since I was a kid. Unfortunately, a lot of movie musicals in the past few years have just not been up to par (I’m looking at you, Russell Crowe in Les Miserables).

La La Land is different – it’s so full of emotion and romance and really just made me feel very nostalgic for some reason? It did something that a lot of film musicals lately have not been able to do, which is capturing the emotion that you get during a live performance. It’s not something that can be forced imo, and there’s still nothing in the world like watching a live show, but they did a really good job getting close to that here. I just found myself feeling really genuinely happy during and after watching and that’s not a feeling I’ve had while for a modern musical film in a while.

It was also visually STUNNING and the way it was filmed reminded me so much of old timey musicals! The entire end sequence I was just grinning the whole time because it reminded me so much of Singin in the Rain! It was also refreshing to see Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in roles different than those that they normally play. I was just very very satisfied with this movie overall and I’m so glad it’s been doing well. I secretly hope that this could be the movie that revives the musical genre and maybe if we’re lucky we’re about to enter another golden age of movie musicals!

Sorry I got so wordy there haha I guess I just feel really strongly about musicals!! That’s all for this week’s Friday Favs! I think I’ll really like writing these every week, it’s fun to look back and think about what made me happy 🙂 I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!
