Welcome to another beauty box review!! Today we are looking at this month’s Target Beauty Boxes. Just like they did back in January, Target released two different beauty boxes for April. But this time, it was a bit different – this month there was a regular beauty box and a “naturals” box! The Naturals box contains (obviously) products from more natural brands with less harsh ingredients. Each box this month cost $7 and both contained a pretty good variety of products.
Target Beauty Box
- Cost: $5-10
- Frequency: Monthly, but it’s not a typical subscription box – you have to remember to order it each time
- Type of products: Deluxe samples and sometimes full sized – skincare, shower, and body products, less makeup lately but still some, and a few hair products and randoms thrown in here and there
- Reviews from my previous boxes here!
Here’s what was inside both! We’ll start with the Naturals box:
Starting off with the packaging – they really made it obvious that this was the “green” box haha. The actual box itself felt like it was made out of a recycled material or something instead of the normal shiny black or white boxes they usually use. The inside had a green info card with green tissue paper. Target also seems to be going for some continuity between boxes – in the March box the info card said “hello spring break” and this month’s boxes follow the same model of “hello ____”. It’s something small but it’s a nice detail, and imo it shows that whoever designs the packaging for these boxes is putting some thought into it.
This is going to sound strange but I also loved the color scheme of the products themselves. I don’t know if it was intentional but there was a lot of pink and yellow items and it looked pretty, especially with the teal/green tissue paper.
Inside were 9 different product samples:
Juice Organics Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner
$2.40 value total
And so my ongoing saga continues of never needing to buy shampoo again! This shampoo and conditioner are formulated without harmful ingredients. However, these sample sizes are deceptively small…the tubes look pretty big but I actually used up almost all of the product after just one use. My hair didn’t feel too terribly different after using but it did feel nice, so I consider it a win!
Burt’s Bees White Tea Extract Facial Cleansing Towelettes
$2.37 value
I’ve used Burt’s Bees makeup removing wipes before and they’re not the best wipes out there but they do a pretty good job. I don’t really use makeup wipes as much anymore because I use coconut oil now, but they’re nice to have for when I’m traveling or swatching or using my hand as a mixing palette haha. These smell good too…everything in this box smells good. I guess that’s part of the “naturals” thing…..
Hello Pure Mint Fluoride Toothpaste
$0.91 value
Perfect timing because I just ran out of toothpaste!! I got this same brand before in a Walmart box once, and I actually liked it a lot and used up the whole thing. It has a bit of a weird taste which I guess is the fluoride, but I don’t mind it too terribly. This one has no peroxides, sweeteners, or preservatives and it’s also free of gluten, which is something I didn’t even realize is in toothpaste??
Raw Sugar Lemon Sugar Body Wash
$0.56 value
This body wash is made with no sulfates, phthalates, dyes, parabens, and it’s also not tested on animals! The scent is VERY citrusy, but it’s kind of refreshing! It reminds me a lot of the lemon rinse I got from a Target box a few months ago and I actually LOVED that product. This body wash smells super fresh and delicious and lathered really nicely despite being free of so many ingredients. I’m a fan.
SheaMoisture Kukui Youth Infusing Cream Cleanser and Face & Neck Crème
$1.67 value total
SheaMoisture is a brand I’ve gotten in Target boxes before, but I didn’t realize they were all natural or anything. This cleanser and cream are formulated with no harmful products, and are made with avocado and olive leaves. The cleanser was kind of weirdly thick, it felt like I was washing off a lotion from my face…the cream was nice though!
Acure Pore Clarifying Facial Scrub
$3.25 value
Upon first looking at this item I was a little miffed…as I mentioned in my recent Walmart box review I don’t really like “scrubs” because they’re often very harsh on my skin. This one wasn’t awful but I still don’t think I’d be too inclined to use it again. It’s very interesting though – it’s made with Moroccan red clay so it’s a pretty red-orange color and looked kinda more like a face mask than a scrub when I put it on. I’m not a fan of the scent and the scrub itself wasn’t too harsh, but I still prefer not to use physical exfoliants. If you’re looking for a more natural scrub without harsh ingredients, this might be a winner for you though!
Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask
$2.52 value
Yayyyy a mask!! I really like the Yes To brand, they’ve got so many great skincare products and I feel they’re one of the more accessible “natural” brands available. I’ve used the version of this mask that comes in a tube before and I really like it. It leaves your skin feeling super fresh and clean!
In the box was also of course the information card about all the different products, along with a coupon for $3 off a $15 beauty purchase at Target. These come in handy btw – I’ve used almost all of the ones I’ve gotten in previous boxes! They’re good for any beauty products so you can use it on random things like deodorant, toothpaste, or shampoo too.
Naturals Box total value: $13.68
Not the best value box I’ve ever gotten, but it’s roughly twice the sale price of $7, and I think I will actually get use out of every item in the box. I think it’s cool that Target did a box targeted at natural brands and products and I anticipate this being a popular item!!
Now moving on to the regular Target Beauty Box:
Even though my box looks somebody tried to take a bite out of it, everything inside arrived in one piece!
With all the white, blue, and yellow, this box appeared to have a fun color scheme going too! I am 99% sure that this was accidental but I like how bright all the products look together.
In this box we received 7 products:
Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep Lavender Foaming Bath
$0.43 value
What a cute little bubble bath!! I used about half of this container for a bath and it was great. I’m very partial to lavender scented things as they really do help me relax, and the bubbles were plentiful and fun!!! I think this was a really fun item to include in the box and I’m glad I got to try it.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser
$0.56 value
This cleanser was actually quite nice! It was very similar to my Cerave Foaming Cleanser that I currently use, but it actually foams up a bit more. The smell was different, but I liked it…for some reason it reminded me of being on vacation. My face felt nice and clean after use.
eb5 Facial Cleanser
$0.44 value
This is actually really intriguing to me because this is an exfoliating product that uses chemical exfoliation rather than physical! Basically – instead of having scrubby micro-beads that are harsh on your face, it has gentle chemicals that exfoliate your skin. I liked this cleanser a lot and I’m glad the idea of chemical exfoliation is making its way to drugstore items.
Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat
$3.49 value
Yay a full size item!! I haven’t gotten a nail polish from a beauty box before so it’s a fun change. I used this as a base and a top coat and it was fine – pretty standard as far as clear nail polish goes. One weird thing I liked is that the bottle is flat on the back side so it lays flat on a counter or table. Not sure why you’d lay a bottle of nail polish flat on its side but it was interesting nonetheless haha
Banana Boat Dry Balance Lotion SPF 30
$1.33 value
A sunscreen! This isn’t an item that I would expect to have in a beauty box but I don’t hate it, honestly. I wear sunscreen every day and living in Florida, it never hurts to have extra. This doesn’t require much explanation as it’s just sunscreen haha
Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner
$1.74 value
This is a single use deep conditioner that’s supposed to improve and strengthen hair. I’ve gotten a leave in hair mask from this brand (HASK) before so it’s not a new brand for me but I’m interested to try this out! My hair isn’t exactly dry or damaged (honestly it leans more toward the oily side most days) but hopefully it will still have some good effects for my hair.
Rimmel Colour Precise Eyeliner White
$5.59 value
This is such an interesting product and I’m really excited to try it! This is a white felt tip eyeliner. I’m just…very intrigued?? I’ve been wanting to try a white liner for a while but I’ve never seen a felt tip one before, always the pencil kind. This is also a full size product which is exciting! Here’s a swatch of the eyeliner:
You can see it’s actually pretty opaque, more so than I expected anyway! I’m still trying to figure out the best way to use it but it seems promising.
And the info card for this box, again with a coupon:
Target Beauty Box total value: $13.58
Almost right on with the Naturals box! This box has great personal value to me as well, because I know I’ll use almost all of the products. yay!!!
Value & Verdict
So the two boxes were worth $13.68 and $13.58, respectively – pretty impressive that they were so close in value honestly. At $7 each they come in at right around twice the amount paid, which is pretty good. Like I said, these also both have pretty good personal value for me because I can see myself using almost all of these. There’s also a pretty good variety of products in here as well. I feel Target has been getting better at balancing the item types in each box (remember in January when I got 3 different lotions in one box??). I like that they include interesting items like the nail polish and the bubble bath…it spices it up a bit haha.
Overall I think this month was great for the Target beauty box(es)!! I’m really glad it seems like they’ve gotten back on track, so to speak, after the somewhat tragic January boxes. But these are both great and I’m glad I got them!! Hopefully next month’s boxes are just as good!
That’s all for today’s post, I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading! Up next for beauty box reviews I’ll have this month’s Sephora Play box so stay tuned for that 🙂
