Work Update: From Epcot to MK

It’s been a while since I talked about my experiences with Guest Relations and how things have been going, and a LOT has happened since I wrote this post. The biggest change is that I’m no longer at Epcot…I’m now at Magic Kingdom Guest Relations! As I’ve mentioned a few times now, my time at Epcot Guest Relations was a TA, or temporary assignment. This is normal for GR and how mostly everyone starts out – you’ll stay on a TA for a while until a permanent spot opens up and you’re lucky enough to get kept full time. It’s also pretty normal for people to move around between parks. Some of my coworkers at Epcot had told me they worked at 3 parks before they got pulled for a permanent spot!

My TA at Epcot was scheduled to end June 3, and I was pretty sad about it. I had learned so much in Epcot GR, but there were 8 or 9 of us all on TAs at the time and they didn’t have enough room for all of us to stay. BUT my sadness was not for long because I found out almost immediately that I was being pulled to Magic Kingdom Guest Relations the day after I finished at Epcot!

This was a complete surprise to me but of course I accepted right away. I was so thrilled to be able to stay in GR and gain even more experience, but I won’t lie – I was also a little scared of MK haha! It’s the busiest park at WDW and the most popular tourist destination in the world, so I knew it would be a whole different beast to work there. I was ready for the challenge though!!

Hopefully lots of friends will visit me at MK GR too ^_^

My first day at MK was June 4. I was pulled over along with two other girls from Epcot, and I was really glad to know a few people right away going in. Our training schedule was a bit wacky because it was all so short notice, and our first day was actually a tour around the surrounding resort area so we can see how our guests get around. We toured the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Fort Wilderness, as well as the area around the Transportation and Ticket Center. It was a really neat look at what’s around the park and how our guests get to and from their destinations.

OH…and during training we also got to go up into the Cinderella Castle Suite again!!!!

If you remember, this was actually my second time going up there, but my first time as MK GR so it was still very special. I hope I’ll get to go back up there in plaid and get some more super cute photos!!

Day 2 was our first day back in plaid, and kind of a “refresher” day – we didn’t need the whole week of training that people would normally get since we were coming straight from another park. It was really fast paced and pretty crazy, but we got the hang of it. By day 3 I was already on my own! My first shift by myself in City Hall I was pretty nervous but I survived! Once I got into the swing of things I realized how similar it is to Epcot, and everyone on the MK team is so nice and really helped me out that first day.

Above anything else, my biggest emotion lately has been grateful. I’m so thankful that I’ve been able to stay in Guest Relations and I hope my current TA gets extended again so I can stay even longer! I was sad to leave Epcot, but I’m so happy to have come to another team that has been so welcoming and awesome. I know I still have so much to learn and (hopefully) a lot more opportunities ahead of me and Magic Kingdom GR can make me an even better cast member.

And that’s pretty much all I have for now! I’ve gotten more into the flow of things already and I’m really excited for what’s ahead of me. All that’s left now is to get some glamour plaid shots at Magic Kingdom to join my Epcot ones haha

I hope you enjoyed reading this one! I love writing about my job and I’m so grateful to HAVE a job that I love so much. I’m learning more every day and I just wanna keep track of it all here so I can look back on it in the future! Thanks for reading as always 🙂
