Today I’m taking a brief pause from my normal posts to share with you something super exciting!! (Also, I’m so glad to be back in the swing of things around here to the point where I can actually say I have “normal posts” again!) I recently made a really big and exciting purchase that I have been working towards for a long time. I bought a new camera!
There are many reasons behind this purchase and I’ve been wanting it for so long, I cannot WAIT to start using it. Obviously I’ve been wanting to take better quality photos for my blog (even though iphone cameras are pretty good these days) so this will definitely help that.
But to be honest, the main reason I wanted this is much more exciting – to make videos!! Some of you may know that I have wanted to venture into Youtube for a long time, but I’ve always been too scared to do it. I always thought that I’m not interesting enough to make videos, or worried what people would think about me. I worried that people would think I was taking myself too seriously or that I was dumb or whatever else there is to worry about.
Well, I decided that none of that matters. When I thought about it I realized that people could say any of that about me NOW, haha – my life isn’t very interesting as it is and somehow I’ve written hundreds of posts about it anyway!! I wrote recently about how I’ve been afraid of trying new things but I’m trying to do it anyway, and this is one of those things. And furthermore, something I have said about blogging for AGES (to the point of sounding like a broken record) is that I write this blog first and foremost for MYSELF. I do this as an activity and an outlet to make ME happy. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks about my blog OR any videos I’ll make as long as I’m still enjoying doing it.
But anyway! Back to the actual camera itself. It’s the Canon G7X Mark II. I did a lot of research on what camera to get and this one seemed to be the best bang for your buck, if you will. I chose this one over many others because, honestly, a lot of my favorite youtubers use this one for vlogging and it seemed to be perfectly suited for my purposes.
The quality is SO good and I was really into the image stabilization and low light features. I’ve watched a lot of videos filmed with it in less than ideal conditions (vlogging while walking or in a moving vehicle, or videos filmed in dark places) and I’m so impressed with the quality. It’s also got a super cool selfie screen that can flip up to be viewed from the front, perfect for vlogging! I still have to figure out all the settings and everything but I am so excited to get started.
So…that’s happening!! I’ve been wanting to make videos to go with my blog posts for so long, for things like our trip reports or showing cool makeup products or literally anything else. I think for now I’m going to start out by just doing sort of supplemental videos to things I write about – like, I’m going on a super fun vacation next week (!) and of course I plan to do the usual trip report posts I always do, but now I’ll have a nice little video to go along with each day! I’m seriously so pumped about this. I love writing and my blog because it’s so much fun to go back and relive all the fun experiences, and I think making videos will be an even better way to do that.
I would love to hear any thoughts you have to help me get started! If you have this camera, tell me tips and tricks and any fun accessories I need! If you have any video ideas for me (because again, I’m still convinced my life is not interesting enough to even be doing this haha…) please feel free to let me know 🙂 I am so, so excited to get started and I hope you’ll love what’s to come as well. Thanks for reading! ❤
