Tourin’ Over California – Day 5

Welcome to day 5 in the Tourin’ Over California series! Today is our Los Angeles day, and we spent it right – first visiting the unique Museum of Death and then checking out some famous Hollywood sights, like the Walk of Fame and Griffith Observatory.

DAY 5 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2018

After our relatively low-key day of travel yesterday, we were excited to be out of the car and having adventures again! Today was our LA day, which was particularly exciting because none of us had been before so it was something completely new. We had a few special things on the itinerary today.

Our first stop was definitely a unique one – we were headed to the Museum of Death!

This may seem like a creepy or off the beaten path destination for us, but this was actually a very special destination because this was my ~special~ thing that I picked for this trip! You may remember that Sarah had picked a baseball game for us to go to as her special thing, and mine was next up with this museum. I had first heard of it from the podcast My Favorite Murder, and upon doing further research I knew that this was a place I had to visit.

I’ve mentioned previously how I’m into weird or “creepy” things, so this museum was really just right up my alley. It had everything you could ever imagine related to death – serial killer artwork, a real electric chair, various types of skulls, crime scene photos and tools from funeral homes all over the country. It was both exactly what you’d expect and so much more. It was definitely not for everyone and I think it takes a special amount of morbid curiosity to enjoy a place like this…but I think it goes without saying that I have that and I loved this place. It was a LOT to take in but I found it all so fascinating!

Regrettably we could not take photos or video inside, but we did film a full review when we got home that evening because I just had so many thoughts about it that I had to let them out somewhere!! In this bonus video we describe the contents of the museum as well as discuss our general thoughts on what we liked – and what was too creepy even for me! A quick warning – if you’re at all triggered by suicide or death, you may want to skip this video and the museum is definitely not the place for you. But if you’re weirdly interested in this stuff like I am – you’ll love this one!

So we had a pretty eerie start to the morning and we were off to do something a bit more mainstream! And we actually had walked on our next place of interest on the way to the museum…it’s the Hollywood Walk of Fame of course!

Now, I don’t know what I expecting for the Hollywood Walk of Fame…but I suppose I did not expect it to be just literally a sidewalk. But that’s what it was. So here’s a bunch of photos of sidewalk tiles, I guess. I wasn’t going to post every single one but I figured these pictures will never see the light of day otherwise so – here they are rapid fire:

Some favorite female actresses:

Some for the White Christmas fans in the house:

Disney favs:

And just a bit of everything:

Some extra love for our all time favs:

Yeah we got on the ground to take photos with our favorites. It’s fine.

We also saw the real Chinese Theatre – from afar:

We couldn’t get any closer than this though because there was literally a movie premiere happening the day we were there. That also meant that it was SUPER crowded. After spending about an hour walking around looking at the ground… we were about ready to head back to our AirBnB for a break.

Once we got back home we happily took in the pleasant air conditioning for a while, and cooled ourselves off a bit. We all kinda collectively came to the conclusion that while the walk of fame was cool and we were glad to have come and see it… we didn’t really need to do it again. The whole walk was very crowded and many of the stars were defaced or dirty (as you can see from the photos). Plus, the streets of LA were full of people trying to sell us something or hit on us or hand us a brochure and it just wasn’t really our scene. We were more than happy to take a break and recharge and ordered some food to eat at home.

We ordered our food from a place called The Melt, which has specialty grilled cheeses that were amazing!! Eating lunch made us feel so much better, and we all laid down for a quick nap before making a plan for the evening. We really love post-meal vacation napping haha

Once we woke up it was decided we would go to Griffith Observatory to catch the sunset! It was beautiful up there and we finally caught a glimpse of the Hollywood sign:

We were able to explore the actual observatory itself a bit too, and it was awesome on the inside. They have a lot of really cool and educational things about astronomy and space, as well as a really cool gift shop. We checked it all out in the vlog!

We watched the sunset from the top of the observatory and it was beautiful. We also got some really nice pre-sunset photos:

The view from the top after the sun went down was UNREAL.

I have made gradients in photoshop that aren’t as smooth as that. Amazing.

After the sun went down we decided to head to one of our favorite places for a quick shopping trip…Target!! We wanted to pick up some groceries for the beach the next day as well as some snacks for the end of the night. What we ended up with was the most beautiful cheese board, which we ate while recording our review of the Museum of Death:

It was an amazing end to a low key day in LA!

That’s all for day 5 of our trip! We’re halfway through the trip now and we will be at DISNEYLAND so soon…my favorite videos of the trip are from Disneyland and I cannot wait to start showing you! I hope you enjoyed this post and video(s!) – thanks for reading as always!!
