Real Techniques Brushes Review

Since beauty and makeup used to be pretty much the only things I wrote about on this blog, I always enjoy going back to my roots to write about those things again. Today I wanna share with you my thoughts on some new Real Techniques I received for free recently courtesy of Influenster!

I’ve written about Influenster several times before – they’re basically a word of mouth marketing company that sends out free products in exchange for reviews. My post here explains it in more detail. I get things from them pretty frequently but I don’t always write about them in detail. To be honest, I don’t love everything I get from them, and for the most part on my blog I only want to talk about things I really like! But Real Techniques is a brand that I really love to use and support, so when I got this set for free I figured I would end up writing about it. And here we are!

Real Techniques is a women-founded brand, created by Sam & Nix Chapman – better known as pixiwoo on youtube. They’re some of the earliest beauty bloggers I can remember watching and they have SO MANY amazing videos with tutorials and beauty/makeup advice. Real Techniques is their line of makeup brushes. It’s sold in a lot of places but I usually get things at Ulta and Target. Their whole line is cruelty free and vegan, making them an affordable choice for nearly anyone!

The packaging was super cute – I would like to point out that Influenster has come a LONG way from when I used to get plain unlabeled boxes with random products inside!!

This set contained 4 brushes and a makeup sponge (which I have written about extensively in the past – but we’ll get there).

The four brushes were blush, expert face, setting, and deluxe crease.

Funny enough I actually already owned two of these brushes – that should tell you that I knew I was going to like this set! The ones I have are a bit older (and dirtier, of course) so they look a bit different, and I gotta say I prefer the newer look of the Influenster set. They’re so sleek and beautiful!

A quick rundown of each:

The blush brush (#400) is SO soft and fluffy. This is one of the ones I already owned! All the RT brushes are synthetic bristles, meaning they’re super easy to clean and use. I prefer these to a LOT of my natural hair brushes.

My older blush brush is a bit misshapen (I’ve had it for literally YEARS) but it’s the same basic size and shape. I like the shape of this brush a lot for applying blush so this was a definite plus for me to get another one!

The expert face brush (#200):

It has a sort of flatter, almost rounded rectangle shape. This makes a great brush for applying liquid or stick foundation. I like firmer, more dense brushes for applying liquid and stick formulas and this one is great!

Next is the setting brush (#402):

It’s a smaller fluffy brush that works well for translucent powder, I’ve found! I like to use it under my eyes to set my concealer.

And finally, the deluxe crease brush (#300):

This is the other one I already owned:

And they look pretty much exactly the same, except obviously the old one is a bit dirtier. This one IS a great crease brush – it’s dense and not too fluffy, so it’s easy to blend your crease really well. I prefer to use it for blending than applying shadow. It’s another good one!

Finally, I got a RT miracle complexion sponge:

If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time you may already know how much I love these. I wrote a post comparing the different blending sponges and this one came out with very high ratings! I pretty much always have at least 2 of these in my makeup arsenal. It’s a great sponge – not much else to say there!!

Altogether this is a really great set of brushes! I know I will use each of them (I already have been tbh) – honestly, you can’t go wrong with Real Techniques brushes. Everything I’ve tried from them has been amazing and I’ve bought probably 40 of those sponges in my lifetime. They have a lot of really great curated sets and things if you want to try a few things at once, and I’m sure they will have some fun things out for Christmas coming out soon too! Again these were provided to me for free from Influenster, but I wouldn’t write about anything on here that I didn’t absolutely love – and obviously I already owned 3/5 of these things so it should be apparent that I like them haha

I hope you enjoyed this post! I know I don’t typically write things like this on the blog as much anymore – I’ve gotten really caught up in my travel series lately but it’s important to remember my roots from time to time with beauty posts like this 🤗 Thanks for reading!!
