Cruising Along – Day 4 & 5

This is the last day in my series all about our cruise on the Disney Dream in April 2018! If you haven’t already, make sure you read the other posts first – they’re listed chronologically here. This final post will cover both our last full day as well as debarkation day, when we arrived back at Port Canaveral.

DAY 4 – APRIL 26, 2018

We have sadly finally reached the LAST day of our cruise on the Disney Dream! But even though it was our last day, we were trying to keep our sadness to a minimum by filling our day with fun activities. Our last day was a day at sea, so there were even more things going on than on previous days when we had docked somewhere. For our last day, we allowed ourselves to sleep in a bit and woke up to beautiful ocean views outside on the verandah:

But we couldn’t sleep too late, because our first activity was pretty early on – and we had a redemption arc to complete…

That’s right!! We were back at it again trying to win trivia! Sarah and I were very determined to redeem ourselves so we were up and out early to go to another round of Ultimate Disney Trivia. Chris and Grant slept in a little longer and joined us later on. If you’ll remember from day 2, we played and got second place. But this time…

We won!!!! The questions were actually still pretty hard, if not harder (!!) than last time, but we lucked out in that there were a LOT of questions about Disney Parks this time, which is kind of our specialty! Again I don’t remember every single question, but if you scroll up and look at our answers you can kinda tell what some of them were – I remember for sure one was naming the voice actors for both young and adult Simba, another was name all 3 hitchhiking ghosts, and you can see our excitement at that second to last question which asked who was the singing voice of both Jasmine and Mulan (Lea Salonga!!!!). They also had a lot of questions where they would name some things from a specific movie, and we would have to name what they were from – Roger Rabbit and Hocus Pocus were some examples. They did the same thing with parks too, where they’d name a few attractions from an international Disney Park and we had to guess where they were from. Finally, we also lucked out in that there was a question about LOST, one of our favorite shows!! They asked “what year did ‘The Incident’ occur” which Sarah is a genius and knew (it’s 1977, for the record) and the cast member hosting was super impressed and said no one else has ever gotten that one right! It was really fun! And we won!!!

After we were crowned winners of trivia, we had to rush over to our next activity, which was a seminar called “Anyone Can Cook”:

We’d read about this before the cruise and made a note that we wanted to try it. In this seminar, a chef from the ship shows you how they make certain dishes on board. In this one we were learning how to make apple strudel!

The chef was up at the front of the room and they had screens around the room showing what he was doing as well. He was super passionate and adorable. You could tell he just loved cooking and showing people how to cook!!

It wasn’t exactly what we were expecting – we thought it was going to be more like we ourselves were actually making the item rather than watching the chef make it and then getting to try a sample at the end, but we still enjoyed it. They also have adults-only versions of this which I have heard are more hands-on, so maybe we will try to catch one of those next time! Regardless, we all enjoyed our little strudels and walked out with a new recipe in hand to try at home!

After this, we were planning on heading to Cabanas but it turned out they weren’t open for lunch quite yet, so we instead decided to grab some Cars food from the pool deck. We sat and chilled in a cute little adults-only area of the pool deck while we ate which was so pleasant!

I had the special that day which was the Philly cheesesteak – it was so good!!

Still repping our trivia winner medals too 🙂

While we were up there, they also played the ship’s horn – which sounds unexciting, but the ships on DCL can all play a bunch of cool Disney songs! It was so cool. Some of the ones we recognized were When You Wish Upon a Star, Be Our Guest, and Small World – you can see a video of all of them here!

Finally Cabanas was open for lunch, so we got up from eating to go eat some more. Cruise life.

We only grabbed a few things though, because we had a very special food-related thing planned for a little later and didn’t wanna fill up just yet! After we finished we headed back to the room to freshen up and drop off a few things (like our medals). There we found our luggage tags on the bed along with debarkation instructions 😭

Our stateroom hostess also carefully placed all our preserved towel animals around the room – we were developing quite the collection:

Once we refreshed ourselves a bit we headed back out to our NEXT thing… an animation class!

We absolutely loved doing the Animation Academy when it was here at Walt Disney World at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so we were thrilled at the idea of getting to do it at sea as well. The class was held in Animator’s Palate and was actually pretty full.

The character that was chosen for us to draw was Stitch! They had the animator cast member at the front of the restaurant and then his drawing was projected onto screens all around so all the tables could see him.

We were all hard at work on our drawings!

And then we were visited by a surprise guest to judge our drawings!!

Stitch came around to each table to check out our work – it was so cute! Stitch is Chris’s fav so I got some creeper pics of him judging Chris’s work haha

Here’s how we all did – Grant, Chris, me, and Sarah:

Once we finished up practicing our artistic skills, it was time again to head back to the room because we had to get ready for our dessert experience at Remy!!

Just like when we ate at Palo, Remy has a dress code and is actually even fancier than Palo – so we pulled out our nicest outfits for this one! Sarah and I wore our matching sparkly rose gold shoes again:

Once we were all ready, we headed up again to Meridian, the lounge outside the fancy restaurants.

We took a bunch more fancy photos while we were up there!

And before long we were called back to enjoy Remy!

Just like with Palo, I wrote a separate post detailing our entire experience eating at Remy, which you can read here!!

And again – we absolutely loved it! It was unlike anything we had ever done before and we all were so glad to have gotten to do it. Remy is an absolutely beautiful place filled with extremely passionate and knowledgeable cast members that clearly just LOVE food. It was an amazing experience!

After another quick stop at the fanciest restroom at sea:

We went back to our room to relax some of those desserts off and decide what to do next.

Despite not having done much yet today (literally all we do is eat and lounge on this ship) we were pretty tired and glad to have a little rest! While we were chilling we checked out the personal navigator for the day and saw something else we were pretty excited about:

Infinity War was so close!!!

Our relaxing turned into a nap for me and Chris while Sarah and Grant went to walk around a bit. We also decided to pack a few things while we had time, so it was less work for us later. Once we were all sufficiently rested and changed out of fancy clothes, we went around to take some last day photos and enjoy our last evening aboard!

We walked around the whole ship taking pics at any pretty background we found, including some at our favorite PINK lounge!

We also got some great pics right as the sun was setting over the ocean:

And Chris and Grant played some more shuffleboard!

Some of the best photo opportunities are on the top deck, where we also played a few holes of mini golf:

During this time we also formulated a plan for Infinity War. We had heard that it was going to be playing in both the movie theatre (Buena Vista Theatre) and the theatre used for live shows (Walt Disney Theatre). Our ideal situation was to see it in the Walt Disney Theatre for maximum hype levels surrounded by tons of other Marvel fans. We decided to rope drop our dinner in the hopes of getting in and out as fast as possible to line up at the theatre at the earliest possible time.

We also looked at the menu on our DCL app ahead of time so we could tell our server Steph right away what we wanted! Our dinner this evening was at the Royal Palace, a beautifully regal princess-themed restaurant. It was a little sad that we didn’t get to spend as much time in this one because we were focused on Infinity War – but I guess that just gives us an excuse to cruise on the Dream again!

We actually waited by the side entrance to try and get in as quickly as possible – we lined up around 7:40 for our 8:15 dinner and were first in line. Others had the same idea as us and a line quickly formed. We talked with a few others in line who had the same plan as us and were also super excited to see Infinity War!! They opened the doors to let us in around 8:10 and soon our plan was underway.

This restaurant was actually so cute, with every little detail being princess-ified – from the napkins to the bread bowls!

Even though we knew what we wanted, we also briefly perused the menu since it was so pretty:

We told Steph our plan and that we were in a hurry to see Avengers and she absolutely killed it – she brought out our bread right away and took our orders immediately, and said she was so excited to see the movie too!

We had some amazing food this dinner, even if we ate it quickly – starting with escargot (!!!):

We all tried one and surprisingly all liked it!

Then we also had this breaded and deep fried brie:

And this delightfully cheesy French onion soup:

For our entrees, we had – conchiglie pasta with lobster (my fav):

Chateaubriand-roasted filet mignon:

And roasted rack of lamb:

Some of us doubled up and ordered the same things which is why we only had 3 things! Once we finished our mains Steph brought out the dessert menu – she said she knew we had already chosen but that she thought we would wanna see the dessert menu because it’s super cute. And she was right:

We all knew what we wanted and got the following:

Grand Marnier soufflé (a throwback to Palo from yesterday):

Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée:

And the opera gateau:

Steph also brought out this dessert that I don’t even know what it is, but she said it was from the kids menu and she thought we would like it haha:

And she knew us well because we did! All of them were SO good but I think my favorite would have to be that beautiful soufflé.

Once we finished up, we thanked Steph for being so timely and promised to come have breakfast and say goodbye the next morning! We were in and out of dinner SO fast – we were at the theatre by 9:30 and plopped ourselves down to wait.

There were only about 10 people in front of us and we were beyond ready to watch Infinity War!!

We took turns taking bathroom breaks and during one I was walking around looking at the special premiere setup they had:

And I actually ran into the cruise director who insisted on taking a photo for me in front of the backdrop, haha:

We didn’t have to wait too long, and they let us into the Walt Disney Theatre about 10:20. We had GREAT seats, we were in the last row before a little walkway so no one was behind us to kick our seats and we were right in the center!!

The whole event was so much fun. They were creating maximum levels of hype with their little red carpet set up, interviewing fans and showing it on the screens in the theatre, and everyone was just SO excited. It was such a fun atmosphere!!

And then finally it was movie time!!! I won’t spoil Infinity War or anything but needless to say we were all SHOCKED at everything that happened and I think everybody in the theatre felt the same. Seeing the movie premiere on the cruise in the middle of the ocean was such an amazing thing to get to experience and we are so glad that the timing worked out in this way!

Once we were all sufficiently recovered from our Infinity War experience, we trotted back up to the room. It was like 1am at this point, so we were very tired but still excited to see our final towel animal:

And sad to see our goodbye letter!

We were so happy to have packed earlier because we passed out almost right away!

DAY 5 – APRIL 27, 2018

The next day we were up bright and early to sadly eat our last breakfast and walk our luggage off the ship. Our breakfast took place inside the same restaurant we had dinner at the night before, Royal Palace. They had a simple menu for the last meal:

Our last breakfasts:

We sadly said goodbye to Steph who was just such a delight to have as our server the whole time. In those four short days she really made an impact on us and it was so lovely to meet her on this cruise!

We collected our luggage, said goodbye, and trotted right off the ship:

And just like that our time on the Disney Dream had come to an end! It was such an amazing experience and I loved every second of our time on (and off!) the ship. To wrap up, just like with my honeymoon finale post I have a short video of a few little snippets I took while we were on board – again, apologies for them all being filmed vertically on my iphone, clearly I wasn’t focused on vlog quality at this point in my vacation blogging!

That brings this trip report series officially to a close! This one felt SO short compared to my honeymoon blogs (but I suppose that vacation was much longer…and I also took months to finish writing that one…) and while I’m sad to be done writing about our cruise, I’m also excited to be finished because my next project is a big one – our California trip! In California we vlogged everything, and I am so excited to share it all. As of the time I’m writing this post I’m about halfway done editing our videos and I am beyond thrilled to have them as another medium to remember everything we did on that fantastic trip for years to come.

BUT I’m getting way ahead of myself here! We had SUCH a fabulous time on our cruise and it only made us want to a.) travel more and b.) CRUISE more!! I know there are many more cruises in our future (like Alaska, obviously) and obviously many, many more travel plans aside from that too.

I hope that you enjoyed this series about our cruise!! If you did, you may be interested in some of my other trip report series – they’re all listed here for your ease and enjoyment 🙂 I hope you’ll also stay tuned for my upcoming projects, including of course my California vlogs/blogs and lots of other non-travel-related content as well! Thanks as always for reading all the crazy things I have to say ❤️

Until our next cruise!!
