Colourpop Disney Designer Collection – Review

It feels like ages since I’ve written a makeup post – but that’s about to change! Recently I got a few items from the Colourpop Disney Designer collection and I am so excited to tell you all about them.

Colourpop is actually a brand I have never been super into – I don’t dislike them or anything, I just only own one lip product from them and have never really felt super drawn to buy a bunch of things. They’re mostly known for being an inexpensive, mostly online brand. Before this Disney collection, I had actually never placed an order there. The one liquid lipstick I have, I got when a friend asked if I wanted anything so she could get her order total up to get free shipping – haha. I found the color I received really didn’t look like what I expected from the photos online (I have Tulle, for reference), and I actually thought it was very drying. After that I just never really felt the need to get anything else from Colourpop, as I’m much more inclined to buy things in-store than online unless it’s something I know I love (see: Beauty Bakerie Lip Whips). It also probably helped that I have been on a low-buy and trying to limit my spending when it comes to makeup this year, so I’ve felt much less tempted to buy things unless I really want them.

But of course, as soon as this Disney collection came on the scene, I knew I really wanted it! It’s based on the Disney Princess Designer series of artwork and dolls. The artwork is so gorgeous, I’ve always loved different takes like this on the princesses and I think they all look so stunning!! The princesses featured in the collection are Jasmine, Tiana, Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, and Belle. The full collection from Colourpop includes an eyeshadow palette, 6 single shadows, 2 highlighters (not pictured below for some reason), 6 lipsticks, and 3 glosses.

I saw the release of the collection and was tempted, but didn’t want to spend too much – so I told myself that if the items I really wanted were still available and not sold out after the release day, it was meant to be and I would get a few things. I knew I had no interest in the glosses or probably the highlighters, but I was into some single shadows, the palette, and a few of the lipsticks. I was sad that the lipsticks sold out so fast – almost all of them were gone by the second day! I really wanted Ariel and Tiana, so hopefully they’ll restock sometime.

Here’s what I ended up with:

I got two single shadows in So This is Love and Heigh Ho, and the “It’s a Princess Thing” eyeshadow palette. The packaging is SO pretty, just look at those little castles!!

I’ll start with the single shadows.

I seriously cannot get over the packaging!!! It’s so cute!!!

So the two colors I got are “Heigh Ho” and “So This is Love” – Snow White’s and Cinderella’s colors, respectively. I thought all the single shadows were gorgeous, but I can’t wear super bright colors at work and I knew I would get the most use out of these two.

The formula is Colourpop’s unique “Super Shock” shadow, which is a texture unlike any eyeshadow I’ve ever used before. It’s almost… squishy? Bouncy? It’s hard to describe, almost like a soft marshmallow or something. They come with this cool waffle pattern stamped on top – I was so excited to swatch them that I almost forgot to take a photo first as evidenced by the left shade here lol

The colors are STUNNING. You can see on the pics of the labels there up top, Heigh Ho is an “ultra glitter” shadow and So This is Love is an “ultra metallic” – aka they’re both super sparkly and shimmery, my favorite!

Heigh Ho is a shiny pearl iridescent color with flecks of like…holographic purple glitter?? It’s insane but so pretty. So This is Love is a shimmery soft peach-y color, and also beautiful. I’ve found that the formula doesn’t really work well with brushes so I’ve mostly used my fingers when applying it, and it works pretty well.

They really sparkle in the light and I know I’m going to get a lot of use out of them!!

Moving on to the big palette – and again with this gorgeous packaging, even the inside was so cute!

And the palette itself is just as lovely:

I will say it was smaller than I expected – but thinking about it now I think that’s actually better, because it’s really good for travel and easily fits in my makeup bag. A few pics of it in my hand to attempt to show the size:

The pans are also a decent size so it’s not that big of a deal. There’s 15 shades inside, each with a different princess-themed name. I’ll go over them all in a moment.

The inside cover also has a little collection of all the ~designer~ Disney princess autographs. Cute, but you know what I wish was there instead? A mirror!!! 😐

But moving on – I swatched it row by row to keep it simple.

The top row is all matte shades:

  • Chip is a very light warm toned beige matte. It’s so light that it barely shows up on me lol which is actually fine for me, because I use light matte shades like this as a sort of base for almost every eye look. I actually almost always hit pan on shades like this in my palettes! I’m going to go ahead and assume this is named for Chip from Beauty and the Beast, despite the fact that he is a white and purple teacup.
  • Juju is a medium rosy pink matte shade. The name is a Princess and the Frog reference, making this the first Tiana shadow! It’s really pretty and I think would make a good crease color for a warmer look.
  • Grumpy looks more orange in the photo than it does in real life but it’s a beautiful matte peach. I’ve been using this one a lot since I got the palette. This one is obviously a Snow White shade and again these names are proving to be kind of arbitrary but fun haha
  • Triton is our first Ariel-themed shade, a medium warm-toned tan. The matte shades are unexciting but I know I will end up using them a lot, and this one would make a good transition shade.
  • Abu is the same kind of thing as Triton, a warm brown, just a few shades darker – another good transition color. I think it shows up darker in real life than in the photo above. Also our first Jasmine shade!

All of these matte shades swatched surprisingly well, btw – like, they’re not on the level of my favorite Lorac matte shades or anything, but I was impressed. Matte shades are notoriously difficult to do well, it seems, and I thought they were pretty good, especially for the price.

The second row is my favorite row! The colors are all beautiful and the names actually make sense lol

  • Prince Charming is a really gorgeous and bright creamy ivory shimmer. This one is seriously SO pretty and I will probably use it all the time. It’s also perfectly named, as I’m pretty sure Cinderella’s prince’s outfit in the film is like, this exact color. Maybe not as shiny though.
  • Ray is another lovely one, a shimmery shade of champagne-y goodness. It makes a beautiful all over lid color and I think it would be hard to make this one look bad. It would flatter almost anyone I think! It’s also another well-named one, for Tiana’s friend Ray the firefly.
  • Fairy Godmother is a bright coral-y pink shade with some hints of gold shimmer. It reminds me of the Orgasm blush by Nars in a way. This is another Cinderella shade that’s a hit for me!
  • One Kiss? continues this row as my favorite, a BEAUTIFUL sparkly gold. I normally don’t wear gold shadows which is weird because I have blue eyes and they’re supposed to compliment each other – but this one is seriously STUNNING. Again I think this one would be universally flattering. The name on this one is less clear but I’m pretty sure this one is supposed to be another Tiana shade (I think she may have the best shades in this palette!)
  • Thingamabob is the counter to One Kiss – a striking sparkly silver. It swatches so smooth and beautifully (this whole row did, honestly) and it’s another one I can’t wait to wear. Obviously another Ariel shade too, I think the name is fun and perfect for the color!

The third row brings in some more fun colors!

  • Enchanted Rose is true to its name, a rosy pink metallic shade. This one is so lovely in the pan and swatched, and I’m excited to play around with it more. It also reminded me of the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow shade Ballet, but with better color payoff.
  • Poison Apple is this really electric-looking purpley pink metallic situation. I realistically will not wear this one as much as others, but I think it would complement a pink toned eye look really well. Also it’s starting to seem like they got better at naming these shades as the palette goes on haha
  • Magic Carpet is a dark plum shade that I would describe as having a satin finish. The swatch isn’t the best but I actually really like this shade – it’s good for adding dimension to some of the other colors and I like using it on my lower lash line too. Not the most interesting shade in the palette but still really nice!
  • Beast is a brownish maroon color with gold glitter. This is probably my least favorite shade but it’s still not bad, and it’s grown on me. It’s a touch more chalky than the rest of the palette for some reason. Like, it’s almost like a matte shade with glitter randomly tossed in, and the glitter doesn’t come across outside the pan. But for what it is, I don’t hate it. The color is really pretty and good for work as well!
  • Midnight Curfew rounds out the palette, a black with silver glitter. In this one, the glitter actually comes through well and it’s more interesting than just a plain matte black, so I appreciate it being included. It’s also a lot smoother than Beast so I have high hopes for this one.

Oh, and in case it wasn’t obvious, the shade names in this section were for Belle, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle again, and Cinderella haha. So if you count them all up… Belle, Tiana, and Jasmine each have 3 shadows, and Snow White, Cinderella, and Ariel each have 2!

Overall I’m extremely pleased with the color selection and the quality of this palette. Part of the reason I bought this is because I knew I would wear pretty much every shade. I feel like in so many palettes there’s either a nice collection of neutrals and then a random bright blue that I’ll never use (I’m looking at you, Too Faced) or it’s just 20 shades of beige and brown that all look identical on the eye. I thought this one was a good counter to those. I like bright colors but I can’t wear them at work so I never get any use out of them – same reason I didn’t buy any of the other single shadows. The most “wild” color in this palette is Poison Apple, and I could still probably get away with that in moderation and with a lot of blending!

The only thing I would change is to add a mirror!! It’s perfectly sized for the addition of a mirror and it’s annoying to have to use another palette or a compact to do my makeup. It’s obviously a forgivable flaw but it would make the palette that much better for me!

I’ve been wearing the shadows for the past few days and they are truly stunning in person. I took some photos of what I wore the past few days but I really don’t think they do justice to how good they look in real life! I would say for longevity they don’t last quite as long as some of my other favorite shadows – some shades start to get a little creasy, faded, or just otherwise weird toward the end of the day. But they mostly last through my whole work day and that’s all I can ask! And I’ve gotten a lot of compliments at work about my makeup too so they must be doing something right!

This was the first day and I was trying to use as many shadows as possible so I wrote them all down haha – I’ve got Chip all over as a base, Grumpy in the crease, Beast on the outer lid, a little bit of Ray in the middle lid, Magic Carpet under my lash line, So This is Love for inner lid and brow bone, and then just a bit of Heigh Ho for the inner corner, which I don’t think you can even see. But trust me – it was so pretty in person!

On this day I was at work so it was a more simple look: I have Chip as a base, Ray on most of the lid, a touch of Magic Carpet on the outer part of the lid and under the lash line, and So This is Love on my brow bone, and again the littlest bit of Heigh Ho on the inner corner. Ray is easily my favorite shade!!

And then today, I did another simple look and wore Chip as a base, with One Kiss on most of my lid, Beast on the outer part, and Magic Carpet under the lash line. And So This is Love on the brow bone…I have only used this palette three days and I clearly already have a go-to routine. But I can’t help it, it works okay??

Anyway. It should go without saying, but I’m really happy with my purchases! Last I checked the palette is still available on Colourpop’s website…. I’m not saying you should run and buy it but I’m not saying you shouldn’t. I hope that you enjoyed this review of my few items from the Colourpop Disney Designer collection!! Collaborating with a brand like Disney is so huge and I hope that Colourpop releases more things like this line in the future. I really love everything I got and I’m going to keep an eye out for a restock on the lipsticks I wanted… and I might have to throw a few other things in my basket if they do…

Thank you for reading as always!
