Tourin’ Over California – Day 1

At the time this is being posted, I’m away on our mystery vacation (obviously by now it will be revealed where we went!) but as always I wrote a few things to go up while we’re gone – and it seems like no better time than now to start my NEXT vacation series! I am SO excited to start this newest edition for our trip to California in September! And this one in particular is very special because we actually vlogged our entire trip as well!! Obviously this was our first time making videos of an entire trip, so we’re still learning – but I am honestly so happy with how the videos have turned out. I don’t know why we didn’t start doing this ages ago for all our trips honestly. It’s going to be such a fun thing to look back on in the future and remember all the great times we had!!

So basically, the way I decided to do this is to put the video for each day at the top of the post, with more details and photos from the day listed below in my normal trip report-style. This post will be pretty short since it’s our first day and I don’t have many photos – I actually took less photos than normal on this trip because I was more focused on vlogging! But the girls got me covered and took way more than me so there will still be plenty to look at 😊 Speaking of the girls – if you don’t already know them, you will – this trip was with my best friends, Sarah and Ana, who you probably recognize from past trips!

We had so much fun on this trip and I am so excited to relive it all over again!! Without any more introduction… here’s Tourin’ Over California 🙂

DAY 1 – SEPTEMBER 12, 2018

Our day started off bright and early, with all of us leaving from our respective airports that morning. Somehow we had managed to get all 3 of us on flights that landed within 30 minutes of each other…witchcraft.

My first flight took off at 10am and I had a layover at LAX. My flight was actually super pleasant – I had a window seat and there was no one in the middle! I landed around 12 and got some lunch from Shake Shack while I waited.

It was so weird and different for ALL 3 of us to be traveling – normally in the past it had just been two of us at any given time so it was pretty fun to all be traveling together!

I also have to mention the mundane amazingness that is Delta’s bag tracker – I thought this was so cool to see when they loaded my bag on to the plane haha

My flight from LA to San Francisco took off at 3:15 and landed right on time at 4:40! Sarah and I both had layovers at LAX but in different terminals, so unfortunately we couldn’t see each other. But it was okay because we landed at SFO at basically the same time!

She found me at baggage claim right away and we waited for Ana to get there shortly after. Look how beautiful our matching Away suitcases looked there:

Once we found Ana we were so excited to all be together again! At this point we also realized how weird it was that we had to call an Uber to get to our destination – normally we just get into someone’s car and go! It was so much fun to be in a new city all together with ALL of us as tourists.

We called our Uber to take us to our home for the next 3 nights, the Grant Hotel. I was focused on vlogging so I regrettably did not take any photos, but here’s one from Trip Advisor that more or less shows what our room looked like:

We got in, dropped our bags, and exchanged gifts we had been holding for each other! Ana had made skirts for both of us, and I had a few things I had been keeping for them from Walt Disney World. I also got all of us these super cute matching Mickey lanyards to use at Disneyland:

Once we were all settled, we realized we were starving!! We got changed and found a nearby place to eat, and were on our way.

The place we ate was Boudin Bakery & Cafe inside of Macy’s in Union Square. It was very close to our hotel and they had bread bowls on the menu…so we were interested. We all ended up getting the same thing, tomato soup in a bread bowl with a grilled cheese!

It was totally amazing and a great first meal in San Francisco! Once we finished we had one more stop before heading back to our hotel – Trader Joe’s for some groceries! I don’t have any photos of this (like I said, still getting the hang of photographing while vlogging here) but it’s all on the vlog! It was Ana’s first time at a Trader Joe’s which was exciting. We just picked up a few snacks and some wine to have when we got back to the hotel.

Once we were back home we got settled for the night pretty early, because we were all so tired after the day full of traveling! It was so nice just to be back together again – I love these girls so much and every time I see them again it feels like coming home, no matter where we are in the world. We were all so excited for the trip ahead – we have some AMAZING things planned this time, and I am so glad we vlogged everything so we can relive it all forever now 😭

That’s the end of this very short first day but rest assured, we have SOOO much more to come!! This was our longest vacation together yet at 10 days, so there is a LOT more to show and tell you all about. Thank you for reading and watching – make sure to subscribe to my youtube channel as well if you haven’t already, because these trip vlogs are gonna be coming very soon!

until next time!!
